Animals - introduction
Animals always play a role in the organism which is the biodynamic
farm. Even small-holdings which cannot include animals will look
for dung as a practical attempt to bring in the animal influence.
There is some
excellent research showing that animal activity is related
to the celestial activity. Whilst some of this is reducible, in theory,
to earthly impacts of lunar activity (turtles laying eggs above the
spring high-tide line etc) more seems to have a direct link to the
rhythms of the heavens.
Dr Steiner was also very keen that an exploration of
animal morphology would lead on its own to an understanding of the
polarities in the universe. (One of my favourite books is 'Man
and Mammals', by Dr Wolfgang Schad. This thorough and thoroughly
convincing elaboration of the three-fold view of Nature, an idea given
breadth and substance by Rudolf Steiner, offers a tremendous reevaluation
and exploration of creatures. Though currently out of print a new edition
has been promised recently!)
