Biography: Edge-based scientist explores the ether

30TH DECEMBER 2025

THE biography of a scientist whose work underpinned the development of homeopathic remedies has been published.

Lilly Kolisko was born in Vienna, but settled in Edge near Stroud in the 1930s.

The recently released biography highlights the significant contributions of Ms Kolisko (1889 – 1976), who was a mentee of Dr Rudolf Steiner.

Born Elisabeth Anna Noha, she was an exceptional scientist whose work provided the first scientific foundation for homeopathic remedies.

Her experiments used substances such as calcium carbonate, silicon oxide, and different types of manure in increasingly dilute 'potencies'.

These were then evaluated for their impact on germination and growth, forming graphs that demonstrated the influence of these dilute substances.

Moving away from traditional theories, she proposed the existence of a life force, referring to it as 'the etheric.'

Kolisko moved to the UK in the 1930s and settled in Edge, where she lived until her passing, to escape both opposition to her research and the rise of National Socialism.

The biography, a product of Soili Turunen's detailed archival research, is available from MM Publications, via: https://tinyurl.com/4d9h396r
